One of the things that I miss as a low residency student is the fariendship of other students. Coming here during the summer allows me to make those friendships. I'm really enjoying getting to know the other students in the graduate ceramics program and am constantly impressed by their kindness and generosity. Being here helps me to feel a lot less isolated in my journey towards and MFA degree and I know that I am making friends and connections for life. I know that the friends and connections that I make during this time will be important to my career after school, but it's also nice knowing that I'm not the only crazy art lady around.
As for the work that I am doing this summer, I don't know that it's directly in line with the type of artwork that I will be doing at the end of my time at Hays, but I'm certainly having a lot of fun learning new techniques and exploring new ways to use clay. I purposely came here with an open mind so that I would be willing to explore new techniques and ideas without feeling the need to produce a particular body of work. It's been very liberating and I'm glad that I took the time to come. It's always exciting to see how artists are pushing the traditional boundaries of their medium and I hope that I can start to incorporate some of that sense of exploration into my own work.
Below you will find a few image of some of the things that I have been working on this week. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or comments.
