In the mean time, I am currently in Hays, KS working on a class for my MFA. The theme of this summer's class is Ceramics and Mixed-Media. For this course we are looking at the ways that artists incorporate non-ceramic materials with ceramics. This can be something as simple as using a metal handle on a ceramic teapot to an elaborate sculpture made of many different materials including ceramics like this piece by Wendy Walgate. I think that this class is going to be a great opportunity to think beyond the medium of clay for expression and should present me with some challenges that will expand my art. I did, however, start this class by making another plaster mold, this time of a pear. I will use this as a form that I can use to explore non-glaze surface treatments within the guidelines of this class, so it should be a fun, useful tool.
I hope that you are all staying busy this summer and that you have a safe and happy forth!
